We have met George Lowden about forty years ago and feel privileged to have become his friends and his oldest retailer still in activity. Established in the Belfast area, in Northern Ireland, George has in the mid seventies revolutionized the folk fingerstyle guitar by launching a steel-strings design whith projection and dynamices usually featured on a top professional classical concert instrument, with incredible sustain and volume as a bonus track! Right at the opposite of compressed American siblings of that era that performed at their best when heavily flatpicked. Lowden has immediately gathered up talented followers and continues ever since. The all natural global woody aspect, the wood bindings instead of plastic, the satin finsish, the twin saddle bridge were inovative features that have been copied many a time without capturing the magical sound of the original design.
This Lowden 32-SE IR/SS is new from the luthier, a 32-shape guitar with metal strings in a Stage Edition series. This is a pure Lowden guitar, with its superb wood species selected from the top of the range, its 5-piece neck of mahogany and walnut with such a comfortable profile, and LR Baggs Anthem electronics to capture the magnificent projection of its Sitka spruce top and reproduce it on stage or in the studio with the highest possible fidelity.
Its shape, rather OM, allows it to nestle in the thigh or to be worn for a long time. The small body (a Stage Edition feature) doesn't send that overly bright fringe into the upper mids, while the Indian rosewood back and sides keep the sound clear, with articulation that lets each note sound distinct in a chord. The Gotoh 510 Gold tuners w/Ebony Buttons will keep the whole thing in tune for sometimes weeks of heavy playing, so reliable are they. This is a fantastic guitar for the pro on the road or those who compose and perform in settings ranging from intimate living rooms to large venues.
