Founded in 1890 in Battle Creek, Michigan, USA, Squier was acquired in 1965 by Fender, making it the brand under which it offers more affordable Asian-produced versions of its guitar models, including the production of amplifiers. These are currently well-made instruments, aimed at beginners and those looking for a backup for their setup, or who wish to approach new types of tones without too significant a financial commitment.
Squier celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Jazzmaster with this edition that draws on its heritage, and delivers the spectacular sound and feel of this instrument now in the pantheon of indie rock, jazz, and pop guitars.
The poplar body is light for its size, and the neck has a modern profile with great playing comfort. The gold hardware is very nice, and the components are all of very good quality. The vibrato, in particular, retains the tuning very well despite excessive playing. A pair of Fender Designed Alnico Single-Coils captures the sound with a lot of character, and reacts brilliantly to the playing dynamics to convey all the nuances.
